CVMA Statement on the Ontario Budget

March 25, 2021 STATEMENT

Statement by Brian Kingston, President & CEO of the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association:

“Canada’s leading automobile manufacturers welcome today’s budget. Measures to support the automotive industry, responsible for over 100,000 direct jobs in Ontario, will help both the industry and the broader Canadian economy recover from this unprecedented downturn.”

“The CVMA applauds the creation of the new Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network to help accelerate the development of electric, autonomous and connected vehicles, and the commitment of $400 million to the Invest Ontario Fund to encourage investments in key sectors, including advanced manufacturing.”

“We have long advocated for comprehensive incentive and investment attraction programs to position Ontario to win job-creating investments. Maintaining our share of new automotive investments in North America requires a relentless commitment to competitiveness and investment attraction efforts. Today’s announcement to create the Invest Ontario Fund is a step in the right direction.”
