CVMA statement on the 2025 Quebec budget
Statement by Brian Kingston, President & CEO of the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association:
“While we welcome the return of the Roulez Vert Program, the introduction of new taxes and limitations on electric vehicles (EVs) in the provincial budget will make it more challenging for Quebecers to purchase an EV. Other jurisdictions seek to incentivize EV adoption through innovative policies; however, Quebec’s decision to eliminate benefits such as toll-free bridges and ferries, along with imposing new taxes on EVs, represents a step in the opposite direction that actively undermines the transition to electrification.
“At a time when EV sales are plummeting, these measures all but guarantee that Quebec’s mandated EV sales targets are out of reach. We urge the government to repeal the provincial EV mandate before serious damage is done to the automotive industry, dealerships, and the economy.”
