CVMA Statement on Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle sales target

June 29, 2021 STATEMENT

Statement by Brian Kingston, President & CEO of the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association:

“The Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association (CVMA) stands ready to work with the federal government towards their target of 100% Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) sales by 2035. Achieving this target requires ambitious policy actions from government to encourage and support Canadians to make the transition to ZEVs by building a comprehensive charging network across Canada, enhancing consumer purchase incentives for ZEVs and educating Canadians about the benefits of ZEVs.

“Auto manufacturers are committing billions to electrification to bring over 130 new ZEVs to market. As part of this transformation, Ford, General Motors and Stellantis (FCA Canada) are investing $5.7 bn right here in Canada, including to build ZEVs. We look forward to working with government to achieve the new ambitious sales target.”
