CVMA calls for immediate resolution to Port of Montreal labour dispute

August 13, 2020 STATEMENT

Statement by Brian Kingston, President & CEO of the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association

“In this unprecedented period of health and economic challenges for all Canadians, it is time for the federal Government to strongly encourage all parties to reach a rapid resolution. Work stoppages at the Port of Montreal are severely impacting integrated automotive supply chains in Canada and across North America, threatening the fragile economic recovery of Canadian automotive production,” said CVMA President and CEO Brian Kingston.

“Auto production relies on efficient supply chain logistics for delivery of parts and components. The Port of Montreal work stoppage is necessitating re-routing adding significant costs to production, increasing uncertainty and undermining Canada’s competitiveness as a reliable jurisdiction for production and movement of goods.”
