CVMA statement on Canadian auto tariffs
Statement by Brian Kingston, President & CEO of the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association:
“We share the government’s goal of protecting Canada’s auto industry and its workers. But tariffs on Canadian vehicle manufacturers when they are already under enormous pressure only makes a difficult situation worse. Combined with legal threats and a costly EV mandate, Canada’s competitiveness as an auto manufacturing jurisdiction is rapidly eroding.
“This industry supports tens of thousands of good jobs. Every effort should be focused on working together to strengthen it. These tariffs are an unforced error at the worst possible time.”
