Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment honours the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers' Association with CCME Pollution Prevention Award.

Toronto, ON – 2001-06-07

The Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers' Association (CVMA) was awarded with the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) Pollution Prevention Award in the organization category in a ceremony in St. John's, Newfoundland. The national awards honour organizations showing leadership and innovation in the areas of pollution prevention.

The CVMA has been recognized for its leadership in spearheading the Canadian Automotive Manufacturing Pollution Prevention Project (CVMA P2 Project) since 1992. The CVMA is involved in the joint effort with DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors, Environment Canada and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment making it the longest running voluntary pollution prevention project program in Canada. The goal of the project is to show substantial reductions in toxic substances used, generated or released by the concerted efforts by the companies' has been met.

"CVMA is honoured to have won this prestigious award. Receiving this recognition for our efforts over the last nine years and for the substantial reductions of materials entering the environment through the efforts of the members of the CVMA is very much appreciated. The innovation and creativity in pollution prevention has shown the auto industry's leadership in pollution prevention. The project remains a model for others to follow," said Mark Nantais, President of the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers' Association.

The CVMA has a 75+ year history of representing the Canadian automotive industry's largest manufacturers. The CVMA's members include DaimlerChrysler Canada Inc.; Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited; General Motors of Canada Limited; International Truck and Engine Corporation Canada and Volvo Cars of Canada Limited.
